Research and development are an absolute must for a future-oriented company - the ideas of today are the products and processes of tomorrow. Research and development not only safeguard the existence of the company, but contribute to the competitiveness of our customers. Research and development help to make the environment worth living. Within Bohler's management strategy, research and development play a very important role. Intensive co-operation with universities and international research institutes ensures a continuous transfer of knowledge and experiences, which ultimately culminate in the successful development and application of new products. Our activities are geared towards strengthening our standard product range on the one hand and to expanding it gradually with new products and technologies on the other hand; the aim being to enter into the fields of more sophisticated products. This is how we will evolve from a company of a primary industry into one involved with modern technologies. Our responses to customer requirements and our quality consciousness dictate our behaviour. Our research and development activities concentrate on melting and casting metallurgy, the processing of special steels and alloys into finished products as well as improving and developing new materials and products. Over 300 valid patents in Austria and abroad provide substantial proof of the efficiency of our research and development activities.

From our new powder metallurgy plant opened in 1999 we launched our new Powder Metallurgy range - BOHLER MICROCLEAN ®. Whilst the analysis of the steel is the same as our Bohler ISOMATRIX range, MICROCLEAN ® offers the following distinct advantages:-
